THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC REAFFIRMS ITS TOURISM AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT FITUR 2026

  • The Dominican Republic officially inaugurated its participation in the 2026 International Tourism Fair (FITUR), consolidating its position as a leading Caribbean destination and highlighting sports tourism, adventure tourism, entertainment, culture, gastronomy, and air connectivity with Europe.

  • As a special guest, the event was attended by the well-known former Spanish footballer, David Villa.

The country presented a majestic and immersive stand, designed to allow visitors to explore inspirations from the destinations of Samaná, Miches and Santo Domingo, as well as specialised segments of sports tourism and authentic experiences. The stand has a schedule of meetings and activities by destination, including Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Pedernales, Samaná, Miches, among others, which integrate live music, merengue and bachata classes, local crafts, cocktails and tastings of typical Dominican dishes.

La Casa Dominicana, an experiential space for cultural and artistic exploration inspired by the colonial houses of the Dominican Republic, will also be presented. It is designed for all visitors to enjoy cultural, gastronomic and sensory experiences, showcasing the richness and authenticity of the country.

In this context, the Dominican Republic’s relationship with Europe is considered vital and strategic, with years of historical collaboration and a deep bond with Spain, where Spanish families have traditionally been allies of Dominican tourism, contributing to the development and growth of the sector.

‘FITUR 2026 allows us to reaffirm the Dominican Republic as a diverse destination close to Europe, highlighting sport, adventure, culture and gastronomy. Spain and Europe are strategic allies, and our mission is to consolidate relationships, strengthen investments and offer memorable experiences for all visitors,’ said David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic.

In terms of tourism development, the Dominican Republic will present strategic projects that will expand the country’s offerings during 2026, including the Paradisus Miches, a 600-room sustainable retreat from the Puntacana Group and Meliá; the Hyatt Vivid Punta Cana, an adults-only resort with 467 suites; and the Miches Grand, a mixed-use megaproject with more than 7,000 units from the Entrecampos Group.

The Dominican participation also stands out for its alliances with European airlines, ensuring a constant flow of tourists to the country’s main destinations and reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s historic and strategic commitment to Europe. The stand was supported by official sponsors such as Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, Grupo Puntacana, Grupo Cap Cana, Banco de Reservas, Banco Popular Dominicano and Banco BHD.
