- For more than three weeks in May, Madeira will offer concerts, exhibitions, flower markets and craft workshops to complement the festival’s cultural programme.
- For the first time, the iconic flower parade will be held on two dates, 3 and 17 May.
For more than three weeks, Madeira, the archipelago recognised as one of the best island destinations in the world, will celebrate the Flower Festival, offering a wide range of activities including flower parades, exhibitions in the main parks and markets, open-air concerts and displays of local crafts. One of the most eagerly awaited moments is the Flower Parade, where floats decorated with thousands of flowers travel through the streets of Funchal, accompanied by dancers and musicians representing the cultural essence of the region.
The Flower Parade, promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture of Madeira, will be held on two Sundays this year, 3 and 17 May. This decision, in line with the objective of improving the visitor experience established by the UPGRADE Programme, aims to reinforce the prestige of the parade and its participants, while offering better viewing conditions for the public.
Taking place in the middle of spring, the celebration also coincides with one of the best times to discover the archipelago, when the landscapes are at their most beautiful and the mild temperatures invite you to explore both the coast and the interior. Trails between cliffs, botanical gardens and natural viewpoints complement the cultural offerings, making this an ideal time for those seeking to combine nature, tradition and outdoor getaways without travelling far from Spain.
Alongside the Flower Parade, the Flower Festival programme will continue to include the Madeira Classic Car Flower Parade on 10 May, the Madeira Classic Car Revival (22 to 24 May), the Flower Market (30 April to 24 May) and other associated entertainment initiatives, adding diversity and appeal to the overall programme.
The reformulation of the Flower Festival is part of the objective of strengthening the tourist entertainment offer within the framework of the UPGRADE Programme, which envisages the creation of new products and market niches, the attraction of new audiences, an increase in the offer and greater differentiation by taking advantage of the specific characteristics of the regional offer.
Air connectivity with Spain and the short flight time make it easy to take an express trip to the destination to enjoy not only this dynamic festival, but also the wide range of cultural activities on offer throughout the year. Added to this is a range of attractions that combine local cuisine, charming small villages and protected natural areas, all of which position Madeira as the ideal destination for a nearby spring getaway.
