- Tostado, an Argentine brand specialising in traditional grilled sandwiches stuffed with cheese, is opening its third location in one of Madrid’s most iconic spots, less than a year after arriving in Spain.
- With this opening in the heart of Puerta del Sol, the brand is consolidating its firm commitment to the city and the Spanish market following the success of its first locations in Alonso Martínez and Tribunall.
- The menu offers nine grilled options, made to order with sourdough bread—some lighter, others more substantial—which can be enjoyed at any of its restaurants for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner with family or friends; while teleworking in its spacious and comfortable rooms; to take away from its takeaway window; or delivered to your home via Uber Eats and Glovo.
Founded in Argentina more than a decade ago, Tostado has built its identity around a product deeply rooted in the country’s gastronomic culture: the tostado. A grilled sandwich, simple in appearance, but which has become an icon thanks to its freshly made ingredients, sourdough bread and unmistakable mix of melted cheeses. In January 2025, the brand landed in Madrid, beginning its European journey with its first location in Alonso Martínez. Today, less than a year after its arrival in Spain, it is consolidating its presence in the capital with a clear commitment to strategic locations of high symbolic value, with three of its own spaces in iconic areas such as Alonso Martínez (Génova, 5. Tel. 696 44 85 76), Tribunal (Fuencarral, 93. Tel. 646 01 95 27) and now, the newcomer to Puerta del Sol (Alcalá, 4).
The person responsible for this expansion, Pablo Baldyga, Tostado’s manager in Spain, highlights: ‘Madrid has been Tostado’s starting point in Europe and the public’s response has exceeded our expectations from day one, confirming the interest in our proposal and in roasting as a product. The opening in Puerta del Sol is a very important step for the brand and consolidates a project with a vocation for growth’.
‘A mix that will blow your mind’
This is how the Mixto, the classic and star of the menu, is created, with ham, that mix of shredded cheese and a drizzle of EVOO before grilling; the Super Mixto, with double everything and a shower of Parmesan; the Ibérico, which replaces ham with Iberian ham; the Americano, with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon; the Argento, with crispy onion; the most traditional, the Pepito, with strips of beef; two vegetarian options, such as the Napolitano, with tomato and black olives; and the Avocado Melt; and the sweet exception: Nutella and banana, with hazelnut cream, banana and icing sugar on brioche bread. ¡Irresistible!

Such is the fondness for toast in Argentina that they have even incorporated the verb ‘tostear’ into their slang: stopping by Tostado for breakfast while answering the first emails of the day; eating any of their offerings or the rest of a more extensive menu — wraps, salads, sandwiches, toasts, yoghurts and sweets such as alfajores —; having homemade croissants with the children; or enjoying an after-work snack with empanadas. Each location has a takeaway window and comfortable areas with power outlets so you can work while enjoying a good coffee. Because another of their mottos sums it up well: ‘quick to go, happy if you can stay.’ The kitchen is open non-stop, everything is made to order, and their offerings define their ‘casual food’ style: fast, but human.
A flexible urban space designed for lingering
The restaurants have a warm and pleasant aesthetic, inviting guests to linger between bites. In addition, each location tailors its promotions to the local clientele. In Fuencarral and Alcalá, there is a daily set menu for €12 that includes toast, a sandwich, wrap or salad, side dish, drink and dessert or coffee; while in Génova, from Monday to Friday at lunchtime, they offer a more international menu with dishes such as gnocchi, pad Thai or garlic chicken for €14.95, which includes a starter, main course, drink and dessert or coffee. All locations offer a toastie + drink menu for €7, as well as breakfast and afternoon snack promotions. The best way to find out about all of them is to visit your nearest branch and keep an eye on their social media.
Tostado arrived in Spain in February 2025, and its third location, on Calle Alcalá, opened in the second half of December. The Tostado mixto, their basic offering, costs €6.50 and can be ordered with different types of bread: white sourdough, brioche or wholemeal. They also have a gluten-free version, as well as cookies and snacks. The new shop in Sol is open from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; Génova, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and Fuencarral, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and until 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Home delivery is available through Glovo and Uber Eats.
