The San Sebastián Street Festivals: this is an unmissable event on the Puerto Rican calendar, marking the end of the Christmas season, the longest in the world. It will be held from 15 to 18 January 2026, and the iconic San Sebastián Street is expected to be filled with colour, accompanied by live music, dancing, circus performances and parties that will continue well into the night, spreading to the rest of Old San Juan. During the day, you can stroll around visiting charming markets and pop-up shops run by local artisans.
Ponceño Carnival: another festival that represents the essence of Puerto Rico is this carnival, which will take place from 12 to 17 February 2026. Held in the coastal city of Ponce, known as ‘the Pearl of the South,’ the main attraction of this festival is the colourful parades of vejigantes, folkloric characters from Puerto Rico. You can purchase a mask to join in the fun with the locals, or participate in the event as a mere spectator while the characters interact with the crowd.
The 2026 World Baseball Classic: between 5 and 17 March 2026, the island will welcome the teams participating in the 2026 World Baseball Classic at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan. Prior to hosting this championship, the stadium is undergoing a £30 million renovation, which includes the modernisation of all areas, the creation of interactive fan zones and a Hall of Fame Museum, as well as the construction of luxury suites.
ArteYunque: this annual cultural event, which will celebrate the third edition of its RÍO exhibition in July 2026, takes place along the Science and Conservation Trail at El Portal de El Yunque. With eight new works commissioned from Puerto Rican artists Gisela Colón, Jaime Suárez, Jaime Rodríguez Crespo, Lena Galíndez, Edra Soto, Dhara Rivera, Daniel Lind Ramos, and Frances Rivera González, RÍO reflects on the heart of the forest: the intricate network of rivers and tributaries that flow through El Yunque and sustain life beyond its borders. Through a multidisciplinary programme that includes poetry, music, and movement in dialogue with the works on display, RÍO offers an immersive experience that explores the natural, cultural, and symbolic meanings of water in Puerto Rico.
2026 World Salsa Congress: at the 30th annual World Salsa Congress, held from 31 July to 1 August 2026 in San Juan, dancers from around the world will gather to enjoy this universal dance in competitions, performances, workshops, social dances and gala events. With venues such as the Tapia Theatre, San Juan Marriott, Plaza Colón and the Marriott beach area, this festival offers competitions such as Salsa Ladies, World Bachata Open, Men’s Challenge, Bomba soloists, as well as group exhibitions and evening social parties with live bands and DJs. A must for Salsa lovers.
National Indigenous Festival: to enjoy some of the island’s most breathtaking scenery, travel along the winding roads of the interior until you reach the mountain town of Jayuya, where its annual National Indigenous Festival inspires crowds every November. Designed to pay tribute to the island’s first settlers, the festival features fascinating ceremonies and parades of indigenous Taíno costumes, while offering attendees the opportunity to visit nearby coffee plantations or take thrilling hot air balloon rides to enjoy panoramic views of the picturesque mountainous landscapes.
