The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, presented the main lines of the Spain Tourism 2030 strategy at the ‘Spain Talks 2025: Tech for Sustainable Tourism’ event held at the Paris headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the main lines of the Spain Tourism 2030 strategy, and stressed that technological innovation, digitalisation and the use of AI are key tools for the sustainable transformation of the tourism model.
Sánchez participated in this event alongside the head ambassador of Spain’s Permanent Delegation to the OECD, Ximo Puig, and the director of Turespaña —an agency under the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and promoter of the event— Miguel Sanz.
In his speech, Sánchez pointed out that the Spain Tourism 2030 strategy, approved in October by the Council of Ministers, is ‘not just a roadmap, but a collective commitment’ to guide the transformation of the tourism sector towards triple sustainability — economic, social and environmental — and to place people at the centre of tourism policies, preserving social and territorial cohesion.
Leadership in tourism innovation
The Secretary of State also shared two of the technological milestones in tourism that the Government has implemented, namely the Intelligent Destination Platform and the Open Innovation Platform, both of which combine public and private data to generate more competitive intelligence in the ecosystems of Spanish tourist destinations, activating continuous innovation, interconnecting and meeting the needs of all agents in the tourism value chain: tourists, destinations and companies.
He also recalled the recent announcement by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the UN Tourism General Assembly held in Riyadh, regarding the creation of an integrated Artificial Intelligence Tourism plan for Spain based on the collaboration between Segittur and Turespaña.
‘Spain is not only an international leader in tourism due to its great cultural and natural appeal, but also because of its capacity for tourism management and innovation,’ explained Rosario Sánchez, ‘and this experience allows us to face the current challenges that arise with important projects already underway.’
The “Spain Talks 2025: Tech for Sustainable Tourism” conference focused on the knowledge and possibilities of technology to promote responsible and balanced tourism in the future. The aim of the Paris event was to continue promoting debate on technology and businesses in the tourism sector within the framework of the OECD, proposing a pooling of tools that will be essential in the sector in the coming years.

The event, which included several round tables and an awards ceremony, served to deepen reflection on technological solutions and challenges in the three areas of sustainability and on their role in ensuring that tourism continues to be an engine of growth for host countries and a fundamental part of citizens’ lives.
