- Cultural curator Cristina Consuegra offers an introduction to the artist Elena Asins in connection with the temporary exhibition *Elena Asins. Antígona*, which the Museo Picasso Málaga is showing in its temporary exhibition spaces until May.
- She will do so through a writing workshop in which participants will be able to work with texts by key contemporary female authors such as Hannah Arendt, Simone Weil and María Zambrano.
- The activity is aimed at adults and will take place over two sessions, on 26 and 27 March, from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. Registration costs €30 and can be completed via the Museum’s website or in person at the ticket office.
Elena Asins, the subject of one of the temporary exhibitions currently on display at the Museo Picasso Málaga – Elena Asins. Antígona – maintained an open and diverse perspective on artistic practice throughout her life. Cultural manager Cristina Consuegra takes this as her starting point in the writing workshop ‘The void behind everything. An approach to Elena Asins’, which will take place over two sessions of two and a half hours each, on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 March from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. This activity is being held to mark the exhibition dedicated to Asins, a pioneer of Spanish conceptual art. For the artist, who died in 2015, the visual arts could coexist and engage in dialogue with a multitude of cultural categories; her approach, in fact, involved breaking down formal boundaries between fields of knowledge and experimenting with materials.
‘The void behind everything’ is an idea that appears in one of the poems written by Asins, and sheds light on two fundamental themes in her work: the impossibility of accepting a limit in the formal and conceptual, as well as her artistic perspective, which led her to question the meaning of life. In this workshop, Cristina Consuegra will present participants with a thought-provoking selection of texts by three radical political thinkers: Hannah Arendt, Simone Weil and María Zambrano. These three authors will help participants engage with these issues, central to Asins’ work: the meaning of life and the impossibility of limits.
In Consuegra’s words: “The idea behind this workshop is to undertake a collective reading of the texts by these three thinkers, link them to the work of Antigone, and propose a final piece of writing based on our reflections, serving as a culmination to this gathering which, in reality, seeks to analyse the void we inhabit”.
The activity costs €30 per person and lasts a total of five hours. It is aimed at an adult audience. Places are limited and registration is now open on the museum’s website www.museopicassomalaga.org/en. You can also register in person at the ticket office.
