One of the most eagerly awaited – and increasingly celebrated – nights of the year is fast approaching: Halloween. For those who like to dress up and can’t resist a spot of trick-or-treating, here are a few tips on where to celebrate…
Gulah (Arturo Soria, 198, Madrid) has been winning us over with its Po’boys for some time now. That addictive New Orleans-style sandwich, filled with local flavours and the essence of the South… And for this magical night — because in New Orleans, they know a thing or two about magic and fancy dress — they’ve created the ‘Suicide Squad’ combo, which includes the Harley Quinn Po’boy — beef birria, dill sour cream and chipotle mayo. Served with chips, coleslaw and blue gochujang sauce—and the Mad Love cocktail, a themed take on the classic Paloma, made with white tequila, grapefruit soda, lime juice and tajín. This terrifying offering will be available during the week of 26 October to 1 November, either as a set (€17.50) or separately, with the Po’boy priced at €15 and the cocktail at €6. What’s more, over the Halloween weekend, they’ll be giving away the ‘Suicide Squad’ combo to the first 10 people to turn up dressed as Harley Quinn… Still thinking about your costume?
Lola 09 (San Mateo, 28, Madrid. Tel. 91 310 66 95) will be transformed into a haunted mansion where the portraits come to life and the bar staff are the ‘living dead’ with the best ‘shake’ in town… This cocktail bar in the Justicia neighbourhood, which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary, is marking this terrifying night with the Bloody Maria’s (€12) — a new house creation made with José Cuervo Tradicional tequila, smoked liqueur, tomato juice, lemon, salt, pepper and tajín. And there’s nothing quite like pairing it with their veal sweetbread taco, spicy coleslaw and chimichurri (€7.50) — a new addition to the menu — it’ll be a ‘spooktacular’ pairing! What’s more, anyone brave enough to turn up in fancy dress will be greeted with a shot of the ‘surprise’ welcome cocktail. Who’s up for it?
Furthermore, at El Jardín de Arturo Soria (Arturo Soria, 207, Madrid. Tel. 91 896 59 25), on the evening of 31 October, they’ll be welcoming all their customers with a ‘Bloody’ Mimosa, made with strawberry purée, because it won’t all be about scares… or maybe it will.
