TRAVEL TO SPAIN SOARS BY 163% DURING EASTER 2026, AT THE HEIGHT OF OUTBOUND TOURISM

  • This Easter, according to data from Kiwi.com, Spain ranks as one of the most sought-after international destinations, with spectacular year-on-year growth translating into a 163% increase in bookings and a 112% rise in passenger numbers.

Among source markets, the United Kingdom stands out in particular, with growth of 279.2%, consolidating its position as the main driver of international tourism to Spain during this period. Belgium also stands out, with an increase of 277.5%, as does the Spanish domestic market itself, which has grown by 239.8%. Furthermore, Belgium and Slovakia are emerging as expanding markets, reflecting a growing diversification among travellers choosing Spain as their destination.

At the same time, planning habits are changing. Travellers are booking less in advance for Easter 2026, with an average of 47 days compared to the 59 days recorded the previous year. Furthermore, the length of stays is also decreasing slightly, with an average of four days compared to five in 2025, suggesting a greater preference for shorter, more flexible getaways.

Spanish traveller trends in 2026

While tourism to Spain is growing strongly, the behaviour of Spanish travellers shows an even more dynamic trend. Bookings made through Kiwi.com have tripled compared to the previous year, with a 215% increase in bookings and a 172% rise in passenger numbers. This increase has been accompanied by a significant drop in prices, particularly on domestic flights, which have fallen by 25%, and on European flights, with a 21% reduction, making travel more accessible during this period.

As for the international destinations chosen by Spanish travellers, Italy ranks as the most popular country, followed by the United Kingdom and Morocco. Furthermore, there has been notable growth in emerging destinations such as Greece, which has seen a 166% increase, Romania with 170% and the Netherlands with 165%, reflecting a growing diversification in travellers’ preferences.

At city level, demand continues to be concentrated in major European destinations such as Rome, which tops the ranking with growth of 186%, followed by London with 123% and Milan with 101%. However, new trends are also emerging, such as in the case of Bologna, which has seen a remarkable increase of 442%, positioning itself as one of the most notable emerging destinations of the period.

Domestic tourism is also showing strong momentum. The Balearic Islands, particularly Palma and Ibiza, along with Seville, stand out as the most sought-after destinations within Spain. Seville leads the growth with a 1,338% increase, consolidating the Andalusian capital as one of the main attractions for domestic travellers.

The behaviour of Spanish travellers confirms a trend towards later bookings, with the average booking lead time reduced by approximately 13 days compared to the previous year. Similarly, the duration of trips has shortened slightly, standing at an average of three days compared to the four days recorded in 2025, reinforcing the trend towards shorter getaways.

Overall, the data reflects a more flexible and spontaneous traveller, combining classic destinations with new alternatives against a backdrop of strong growth in demand.

Dates analysed: bookings made up to 24 March 2026 for travel in April, and the equivalent period in 2025.
