The city is establishing itself as an international destination for major sporting events linked to the sea.
Valencia will host the Spain Sail Grand Prix for the next three seasons after signing an agreement that firmly establishes it on the Rolex SailGP Championship calendar until 2028. The first edition of the event in the city will take place on 5 and 6 September 2026, marking a new milestone in Valencia’s international positioning as a top-level tourist and sporting destination.
With this addition, Valencia joins the select group of cities that host this prestigious international sailing competition, alongside iconic destinations such as New York, Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, Portsmouth and Dubai. This is a strategic commitment to a global event that combines technological innovation, sustainability and spectacle, attracting a highly qualified international audience.
A natural enclave for high-level sailing
Valencia was chosen as the venue due to its deep historical connection with the sea and its exceptional sailing conditions. From its historic port to its internationally renowned marina, the city has demonstrated solid experience over the years in organising major nautical and sporting events, such as the America’s Cup and the Trofeo SM La Reina, offering a unique setting for both competition and public enjoyment.
Valencia’s seafront will thus become the backdrop for a competition that pits national teams against each other in high-tech F50 catamarans, capable of speeds in excess of 100 km/h, and which stands out for its commitment to a model of sport powered by the natural force of the wind.
Tourism promotion and legacy for the city
The arrival of SailGP reinforces Valencia’s international profile and has a significant impact in terms of tourism visibility, attracting visitors and boosting the economy. The event will also serve as a showcase for the organisational capacity of the city and the Valencian Community in hosting top-level sporting competitions, as well as their commitment to sustainable, innovative tourism linked to the Mediterranean.
Tickets for the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Valencia will go on sale in February, with early access through the official SailGP+ programme, which offers exclusive benefits and premium experiences for fans.
With this agreement, Valencia takes another step forward in its strategy to attract major international events, consolidating its position as a destination where sport, sea, culture and lifestyle come together in a unique tourist offering.
