This year saw the arrival of the latest version of the fifth generation RAV4 plug-in hybrid with a sportier character without sacrificing its road-going qualities.
A spectacular exterior
With a robust image, its aesthetics are full of differentiating details that emphasise its sporty character, such as its powerful front end or the wide grille with the exclusive GR lettering.
The larger light clusters and the bumper finished in dark grey metallic colour reinforce the dynamic spirit of the elegant bodywork.
At the rear of the RAV4, the rear window framed by gloss black trim and a generous rear spoiler are striking, as well as aerodynamic performance-enhancing vents.
The exclusive 19-inch wheels with five double spokes have been specifically designed to reduce weight and improve rigidity. Their gloss black finish and the numerous machined details on the spoke edges give them a distinctive sporty look. The two-tone color scheme harmonizes with the rest of the design, following the red, black, and white aesthetic of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team. A selection of metallic paints is available as an option: Lunar Silver, Graphite Gray, and Orion Blue Mica, which can be combined with gloss black on the roof, center pillars, and rear wing.
A high-level interior
The spacious cabin of the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport is fully equipped, spacious throughout, carefully ergonomically designed and finished with high quality materials, so comfort is assured.
The interior trim and upholstery is in a combination of black suede and synthetic leather with grey stitching, which accentuates the pleasant feel, as well as providing good occupant support in running order, This is also due to the cleverly designed seat architecture.
In terms of finish, all of which are of high quality, the exclusive touch of dark grey metallic detailing on the steering wheel, air vents and centre console around the gear lever is particularly striking.
Standard equipment on the GR Sport includes electric front seat adjustment and a new version of the panoramic view monitor, which includes a view from underneath the vehicle for better control of the ground at low speeds in off-road driving.
It’s easy to find the ideal driving position with all the controls and information close at hand. The 12.3″ digital instrument cluster provides a wealth of information in a clear and intuitive way, and can be customised to suit personal preferences or trip characteristics.
The RAV4 GR Sport features the brand’s most advanced multimedia system, Toyota Smart Connect, which is easily accessible via a 10.5″ screen located in the central area of the dashboard, and can be connected wirelessly via Apple CarPlay® or via cable for Android Auto®.
This advanced multimedia system enables navigation with real-time traffic information, as well as all the necessary route planning and traffic sign recognition, weather information and low-emission zone alerts, among other functionalities.
Voice interaction is now easier thanks to the “Hey Toyota” assistant, through which you can adjust the climate control, select multimedia functions, make phone calls or open and close the windows, for example. This function is designed to understand the conversational development and react to the message through short, direct sentences from both the driver himself and the front passenger. This results in safer driving with fewer distracting actions, and a much more pleasant driving experience.

In running order
The RAV4 GR Sport plug-in hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre Hybrid Dynamic Force engine that combines combustion and electric power, produces 306 hp capable of launching the 1,910 kg vehicle from 0-60 mph in 6 seconds.
As for electric range, it reaches 75 km and a maximum of 135 km/h thanks to a modern battery that recharges in a maximum of three hours to 100%.
The suspension is another dynamic area that has undergone substantial changes to improve the driving feel. The front and rear springs are now stiffer, improving agility and more accurate responses. These changes lead to an adjustment of the damping force, perfectly balancing the trade-off between comfort and safety.
The standard AWD-i intelligent all-wheel-drive system helps to reduce urban fuel consumption, quiet operation at higher speeds and better grip on slippery surfaces. This innovative system generates more torque from the car’s own mechanics, plus an additional electric motor on the rear axle, making better use of the energy, reduces weight and optimises all-wheel drive operation.
Torque distribution between the two axles varies autonomously according to the specific conditions of the moment to achieve the best driveability, stability and engine performance.
WD Integrated Management (AWD Integrated Management), a unique feature of the RAV4, automatically adjusts all vehicle systems such as power steering, brake and throttle control, gearbox and torque distribution according to the selected driving mode: normal, eco or sport.
Off-road, the AWD-i system incorporates automatic limited-slip differential control, an essential tool for achieving the best levels of grip in all types of terrain and adverse driving conditions.
The Toyota Assist package incorporates advanced safety and driving assistance features such as the pre-collision safety system with the ability to activate the brakes to avoid impact.
Another new feature is Emergency Power Steering which helps to avoid pedestrians on the road, keeping the car within the lane and under full control.
