The romance between the Priorat region of Tarragona and wine began in 1194 when Carthusian monks from Provence settled in Escaldei on the orders of Alfonso II of Aragon, bringing with them the grapes and the winemaking knowledge of their place of origin. One of the working farms in the Priorat was Mas d’en Bruno, which was worked by the Bruno family, who handed over the corresponding tithe to the monks in the Torroja area. This family, one of the most prominent in the region, built the farmhouse in 1797 which, two hundred and twenty-six years later, ended up becoming the boutique hotel that we can enjoy today.
When The Stein Group, owner and manager of Mas d’en Bruno, decided to undertake this project, they did so with the utmost respect for this region full of history and winemaking tradition, a vision that they applied with the utmost detail in the design of each space, as well as the services and experiences. A project in which they have sought to emphasise the importance of the old and combine it harmoniously with the new, creating a calm luxury so that guests can connect with the Priorat and its history and enjoy the experience in an intimate atmosphere.
To achieve this they entrusted the architecture and interior design studio C97 Arquitectes i Associats and Astet Studio. They respected elements of the original construction such as the façade, the entrance door, the walls, the beams and the ceramics, and they skilfully combined hardwoods and stone with warm colours – different shades of burgundy, beige and earth tones – to create a 5* boutique hotel with a unique flavour and in harmony with the land on which it stands.
This marvellous accommodation, surrounded by ancient vineyards and impressive mountains, is located in the town of Torroja del Priorat, very close to the medieval monastery of Escaladei, cradle of the wines of Priorat and Suriana, with its medieval charm and history carved into the stones of its houses, its Muslim fortress and its Romanesque church.

Gastronomy in permanent connection with the land
Gastronomy is one of the aspects of Mas d’en Bruno that they take the greatest care of. Continuing with the respect for the region, its cuisine is connected to the land, to this region with a Mediterranean climate. For this reason, they decided to enlist the services of a chef who knows this land, its cuisine and its products well, a genuinely Tarragonan chef, Josep Queralt, named best chef of the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l’Ebre in the first edition of the Premis Gastronòmics Tarragona in 2021.
There are three spaces in which to savour the cuisine of Mas d’en Bruno. Vinum, the main restaurant, offers a complete gastronomic experience with three tasting menus or à la carte dishes; all paired with an excellent wine list with mainly Priorat wines, as well as an interesting selection of international wines. The interior space is completed with two open-air terraces with the vineyards and the majestic mountains of the Priorat as a backdrop.

The old wine press of the farmhouse, in which the ancient walls and centuries-old stone can still be seen, has been perfectly restored to house the Mas d’en Bruno spa & wellness centre, in which the old oil press and archaeological elements contrast with the avant-garde design of the taps and fountains.
