Mareterra, the Principality of Monaco’s new eco-friendly neighbourhood, covering six hectares on the shores of the Mediterranean and opened in 2024, counts 99 Sushi Bar Monaco amongst its distinguished tenants. The artistry of contemporary Japanese cuisine, exceptional ingredients and the Riviera lifestyle come together at 99 Monaco.
The Principality is a particularly natural embodiment of this Spanish brand’s philosophy. This statement is reflected in the words of Jaime Castañeda, global CEO of 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant: “Monaco embodies everything we want 99’s international expansion to stand for: exceptional cuisine, an extraordinary destination and an experience that goes beyond the dining table. As we continue to expand into new markets, our priority remains the same: to preserve the essence of 99 whilst allowing each destination to develop its own identity.»
Situated in one of Monaco’s most unique seaside destinations, at 16 Quai du Petit Portier, 99 Sushi Bar Monaco is a refined expression of contemporary Japanese cuisine on the idyllic Côte d’Azur.
A culinary philosophy that has been defined from the very Beginning
An exceptional product, Japanese craftsmanship, precision and respect for the ingredients: this is the philosophy the brand has upheld since its inception. The cuisine combines traditional Japanese techniques with a modern twist, whilst ensuring that the quality and character of the ingredients remain at the heart of every dish. Dishes in which the emphasis is on ingredients of exceptional quality, such as Wagyu beef, caviar and a carefully selected range of seafood, and above all, bluefin tuna, which takes centre stage in 99’s culinary identity. A commitment to excellence that has been evident since the restaurant opened – and continues in Monaco – through the brand’s partnership with Balfegó, a supplier of sustainably sourced Atlantic bluefin tuna.
As a result, we find a menu where the technique is at the service of the dish, and every detail – from preparation to presentation – faithfully reflects the standards that have defined 99 Sushi Bar for over two decades.
The dining experience is further enhanced at the omakase counter, which, by showcasing a more social side to the brand, has become an increasingly important part of Mónaco’s identity.
99 Sushi Bar Monaco offers other ways to enjoy its cuisine throughout the day. The Omakase Business Lunch is a refined journey through eight carefully selected courses, perfect for a sophisticated midday break, where every detail is designed to surprise and delight. The perfect culinary interlude for an elegant meal full of surprises.
Before delving into the restaurant’s haute cuisine, we can enjoy “Afterlight by 99 Sushi Bar”, a perfect way to spend the evening, where signature cocktails, music and atmosphere provide a delightful transition from afternoon to evening.
When the Côte d’Azur is bathed in the golden light of sunset, the ideal place to enjoy that magical and unique moment is the terrace, a refined spot in the heart of the Principality. Situated on the shores of the Mediterranean, this unique venue offers an exclusive retreat with views of the boats moored in the marina; a refined setting in which to savour 99 Monaco’s exceptional Japanese cuisine al fresco. Since it opened, this venue has become the most sought-after spot in Mareterra, perfect for a sunny lunch or a dinner under the stars, but above all, for creating unforgettable memories.
Japanese haute cuisine, the excellence of its ingredients, cocktails at sunset, its elegant terrace and the experiences that allow us to be part of the Monegasque lifestyle all mean that the restaurant brings together the elements that define the 99 Experience.
99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant
It has taken just two decades for the brand to become an international culinary benchmark, with restaurants across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
As well as Monaco, cities such as Madrid, Barcelona and Marbella in Spain; Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; Rabat in Morocco; and Budapest in Hungary – the first outlet in Central Europe, which opened recently – are enjoying the haute cuisine of Japanese cuisine offered by 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant.
An international journey that is entering a new phase with the new chapter set to begin in Dubai, as the restaurant moves from Downtown Dubai to The Address Creek Harbour, offering diners a more spacious bar and lounge, as well as a new setting in which to enjoy the 99 Experience. At the same time, they will be opening their first restaurant in the UK, specifically in the exclusive London neighbourhood of Mayfair. All of these destinations have their own identity but share the same vision.
The opening of new outlets has been accompanied by recognition in various international markets. 99 Sushi Bar was awarded an Abu Dhabi Michelin star in Abu Dhabi for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 editions. Meanwhile, 99 Sushi Bar Rabat, located at the Conrad Rabat Azana, was awarded two Gault&Millau Morocco stars in 2026, during the first edition of the awards ceremony held in the country.
Restaurants based in Spain have also received awards. In this case, from organisations and guides such as the Michelin Guide and the Repsol Guide. And the restaurant that recently opened in Budapest has begun to make a name for itself on the city’s culinary scene.
These accolades reflect the philosophy shared by all the brand’s restaurants: uncompromising quality, respect for ingredients, precision in execution and customer-focused hospitality. Culinary gems that every lover of Japanese cuisine should add to their list of favourites.
