If the hand-painted stars on the rear of this “wild and limited” version of 200 numbered units already make it unique, the care with which it has been built and its powerful V8 engine are no less impressive, making the German model an icon worthy of collecting.
To coincide with the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, Mercedes-AMG presented the exclusive GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collectors Edition”. With numerous individual design elements and equipment details, the link to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has been strengthened. Even the metallic obsidian black colour is inspired by the current Formula 1 car of the factory team. The same applies to the hand-painted silver Mercedes stars on the rear flanks and the PETRONAS-coloured decorative stripes. These extend from the front wheel arches above the beltline to the roof.
But they are not the only distinctive features. There are also further contrasting elements in the PETRONAS colour on the front splitter, on the side air intakes of the front bumper, on the decorative elements of the side skirts and on the rear diffuser.
Sporty flair at its best
The AMG 21-inch forged wheels with matt black finish and cross-spoke design are accentuated by rim flanges in PETRONAS colour. The AMG ceramic high-performance brake system elements come as standard with six-piston fixed callipers at the front and 420 mm diameter discs and single-piston floating callipers at the rear. The “Motorsport Collectors Edition” is fitted as standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R Cup tyres, with dimensions ranging from 295/30 ZR 21 at the front and 305/30 ZR 21 at the rear.
The standard AMG exterior package in carbon fibre with front splitter, side sill sill scuff plates and high-quality carbon fibre diffuser and rear spoiler underlines the link to motorsport. The equipment also includes the panoramic glass roof and the AMG aerodynamics package with a fixed spoiler on the tailgate. The AMG Night II package enhances the individual visual appearance of the “Motorsport Collectors Edition”, including black chrome elements, radiator trim, lettering and the Mercedes star at the rear. The AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome with “AMG” lettering also underlines the special character of the edition.
Under the bonnet of this exclusive coupé is a powerful AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 612 hp, whose figures are truly spectacular. It delivers 20 kW (27 hp) more than in the AMG GT 63, and the Affalterbach engine experts have increased the maximum torque by 50 Nm to 850 Nm for even more powerful acceleration, going from 0 to 200 km/h in just 10.9 seconds and from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and a top speed of 317 km/h.
Such strong performance means that the high- and low-temperature cooling circuits have been reinforced to ensure that the powertrain does not overheat even under high load. There are now two radiators in the front wheel arches, increasing the cooling performance of the powertrain and thus the overall performance of the car on the racetrack.
The upper radiators of the front and rear axle differentials and the transfer case of the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive are now actively cooled. With the aid of electrically driven water pumps, the coolant is circulated through the relevant cooling circuits and is then pumped to the cooling circuits, This enables better and more continuous heat dissipation through the top-mounted radiators.
The new geometry of the underbody air deflectors and brake cover plates channels more air to the brakes. This increases durability and avoids excessively high brake temperatures.
In addition, aerodynamic performance has been enhanced by a redesigned front apron, integrating additional carbon fibre air deflectors visible around the side air intakes. The active airfoil on the underbody, the AIRPANEL active air control system on the front apron and the aerodynamic package with a fixed rear spoiler on the tailgate substantially improve performance at high speeds. The aerodynamic lift over the front axle is reduced by more than 30 kilograms, making the steering behaviour even more precise. The AMG GT 63 PRO also features additional underbody air deflectors similar to those of the Mercedes-AMG ONE. These fins, positioned at the front and rear axles, intensify airflow to the underbody. All measurements are coordinated and interact with the rear wing, which increases downforce over the rear axle by about 15 kilograms.
A front axle lift system allows the front of the vehicle to be raised before crossing speed bumps or kerbs.
A dream interior
The interior is also characterised by numerous PETRONAS-coloured details. The standard AMG Performance seats are upholstered in black nappa leather/Microfibre MICROCUT with PETRONAS-coloured stitching and embossed AMG badges on the headrests. The AMG carbon inserts match the AMG Performance heated steering wheel in MICROCUT leather/microfibre with PETRONAS-coloured stitching. This stitching is also found on the door trim, instrument panel and centre console.
The AMG door sill trims are coated in black and illuminated in PETRONAS colour.
The Burmester High End3D surround sound system with 15 loudspeakers and 1,170 watts of power is standard in this extensively equipped special model. In addition, there is the 360-degree camera, the MBUX interior assistant, the driver assistance package and the head-up display. The AMG TRACK PACE provides a wealth of data when driving on the racetrack.
Ambient lighting and the ENERGIZING package contribute to a sense of well-being during long journeys. The “1 of 200” edition badge on the centre console indicates the limited edition of the special model.
To protect this valuable and iconic Mercedes edition from theft and vandalism, the model is equipped with the GUARD 360-degree vehicle surveillance system. In addition, every customer receives a personalised AMG edition-specific cover.
